A five-month closed season under snow and ice
A New Hampshire pool can sit closed from October into April. That is a long time for a cover to hold accumulated snow, and ice is the real hazard: once a sheet of ice forms across a closed cover it can bond to the fabric and to the track, and any attempt to run the motor against it tears fabric or shears a rope. Covers here need the water level maintained, the pump kept running, and above all to be left closed until the ice is genuinely gone. Getting the fall closing right is most of the job in New Hampshire.

- How should I care for my cover over a Northeast winter?
- Keep the water level up, keep the cover pump running so meltwater and snow don't pool in the center, and leave the cover closed until the track is genuinely clear of ice. Most of the spring repair work we do is on covers that were forced open against ice on the first warm day.

- Scheduling rather than travel is the practical constraint. Connecticut and Rhode Island are quick to reach and often accommodate short-notice work, while southern New Hampshire, northern Dutchess County, and the far end of central Massachusetts run on scheduled routes — worth booking seasonal openings and closings early.
